Plain-language summary

PastPlate is currently designed as a local-first app. Restaurant, dish, visit, and photo information is stored on your device unless you choose to export a backup or use a third-party feature such as restaurant search, App Store billing, or the support form.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how PastPlate handles information through the PastPlate mobile application, the PastPlate website, and support communications. “PastPlate,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of PastPlate.

2. Information stored in the app

Depending on how you use PastPlate, the app may store the following information on your device:

  • Restaurant names, cuisine, addresses, and saved or visited status
  • Visit dates, visit notes, and associated dishes
  • Dish names, ratings, Order Again or Skip decisions, and reasons for rating changes
  • Customizations, dietary or ingredient notes, and other personal notes
  • Dish, menu, or receipt photos you choose to add
  • Meal-reminder preferences
  • Locally recognized subscription status

The current version does not require a PastPlate user account and does not operate a cloud database containing your complete dining history.

3. Restaurant search and location

PastPlate may request access to your approximate or precise device location to show nearby restaurants. Location access is optional. When you use restaurant search, search terms, location information, and related technical information may be sent to Google Maps Platform to return restaurant results. Google handles that information under its own privacy terms.

4. Photos

If you choose to take or select a photo, PastPlate requests access to the camera or photo library as needed. Photos added to PastPlate are stored with the app’s local data. PastPlate does not upload those photos to its own cloud service in the current version.

5. Meal reminders

If enabled, meal reminders use local device notifications. Notification permission is optional. PastPlate does not need to send your dining history to a server to schedule the current time-based reminders.

6. Backups

You may export a ZIP backup containing the PastPlate database, a manifest, and associated photos. The backup is created locally and shared through the device’s share sheet. You decide where it is saved or sent.

PastPlate backups are not encrypted by the app. Store exported backups in a private location. Files, cloud-storage providers, email providers, or other apps you use to store or transmit a backup may process it under their own privacy policies.

7. Subscriptions and purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. PastPlate receives transaction and product information needed to recognize access, restore purchases, and display subscription status. PastPlate does not receive your full payment-card number. Apple handles billing information under Apple’s privacy terms.

8. Information collected through the website and support

If you submit the support form, we collect the information you provide, such as your name, email address, topic, message, device type, and iOS version. We use this information to respond to the request and improve PastPlate.

The hosting provider may automatically record standard server-log information, such as IP address, browser type, requested page, and date and time, for security and operational purposes. This website does not include advertising trackers or third-party analytics in the current release.

9. How information is used

We use information to operate PastPlate, provide restaurant search, process support requests, diagnose problems, test and improve features, protect the service, comply with legal obligations, and communicate about a request you submitted.

10. Sharing

We do not sell personal information. Information may be shared with service providers only as needed to provide a feature, including Apple for subscriptions, Google Maps Platform for restaurant search, website-hosting providers, and communication providers used to respond to support requests. Information may also be disclosed when legally required or to protect rights and safety.

11. Retention and deletion

App history remains on your device until you edit it, delete it, delete all PastPlate data, or remove the app. Exported backups remain wherever you chose to save them. Support messages may be retained as reasonably necessary to respond, keep business records, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

12. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Protect access to your device and exported backup files.

13. Children

The current PastPlate app is not directed to children under 13. A future family-focused version may have different features and privacy terms before it is offered.

14. Food, dietary, and allergen information

Dietary or ingredient notes are personal reference information. PastPlate does not verify restaurant ingredients, preparation methods, cross-contact risks, or current menu information. Always confirm directly with the restaurant before ordering.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as PastPlate changes. The updated effective date will be posted on this page. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or through another appropriate method.

16. Contact

Questions or privacy requests may be sent to support@pastplate.com or submitted through the PastPlate support page.
